Best Affiliate Programs For Food Blogs

January 8, 2024 By Peter

If you’re a blogger and you haven’t been making money through affiliate marketing, it is highly likely that you are not maximizing your blogging income.

I made the mistake of disregarding affiliate marketing when I first started blogging, believing it would not be beneficial. However, I soon realized how inaccurate my judgment was.

Monetizing your blog through affiliate marketing is an excellent strategy.

There are bloggers who achieve such immense success in promoting affiliate programs/products that they generate a substantial six-figure income solely through that means.

However, you will soon discover that there is a vast number of affiliate programs available, making it challenging to find the reputable ones. It is comparable to searching for a needle in a haystack due to the sheer volume. Additionally, the multitude of categories to select from can create confusion.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

As a publisher in affiliate marketing, you promote a product or service of a company (the advertiser) and receive a commission in return. You will have a unique affiliate link that the advertiser will use to monitor your earnings.

Why Use Affiliate Marketing?

There are a couple of reasons why affiliate marketing is one of my preferred methods to generate income through my blog.

Making money doesn’t require investing time in creating a product or offering a service.

How many affiliate programs should you join?

The decision is yours, but personally, I hold the belief that the more you participate, the greater your chances of success!

Having numerous affiliates in place ensures that even if one revenue source diminishes, there will be other sources continuing to generate income. This approach serves as a safeguard and guarantees a steady stream of income will persist.

Affiliate Programs for Bloggers

1. BLUPRINT

With over 13 million subscribers, Bluprint, formerly recognized as Craftsy, is a firmly established online platform.

The reason for its popularity lies in the extensive range of classes it provides. With over 1,300+ in-depth classes available in various categories such as quilting, knitting, cooking, dance, yoga, music, art, and photography, it offers ample opportunities to pursue your interests, improve your abilities, and gain knowledge from a community of over 600 experts who share the same interests and goals. Their motto is to encourage individuals to follow their passions, refine their skills, and learn alongside like-minded individuals who are equally driven and motivated.

2. SHE MEDIA

With around 60 million unique visitors per month, SHE Media (formerly SheKnows Media) is a digital media company established exclusively by and for women. You have the option to monetize your website or blog independently or engage in sponsored campaigns on either your site or social media platforms.

I had a fantastic experience being a part of Blogher, one of their main websites, for several years. They regularly reached out to me with opportunities for sponsored posts, and I managed to attract some traffic by sharing my content on their platform. However, I chose to leave because I wanted to join AdThrive, the advertising company I am currently affiliated with, and it was not feasible to continue with both simultaneously.

3. Sovrn

Sovrn operates as an ad network that offers compensation based on CPM (cost per thousand). In essence, for every thousand ad impressions, you receive a specific amount of payment, even without your blog visitors clicking on the banners. This feature is especially advantageous for food bloggers.

I am mentioning this because the majority of individuals who browse through food blogs are seeking recipes rather than products to purchase. Therefore, the probability of them clicking on any of your advertisements is quite minimal. If you are affiliated with an advertising network that pays based on CPC (cost per click), your earnings will be insignificant as they only compensate for ad clicks.

4. Healthy Wage

Participants in the Healthy Wage program receive financial compensation for losing weight.

The concept is slightly more intricate, but essentially participants indicate the desired weight loss amount and the estimated duration for achieving it, and the calculator displays the potential monetary reward. Individuals who successfully reach their goal within the specified timeframe receive the anticipated winnings.

This is quite an intriguing concept that might attract readers who are seeking to lose some weight. Writing a blog post about this company and highlighting the exceptional nature of their program should be fairly straightforward. Just ensure to try their program beforehand, informing them that you are conducting research for a blog post and not seeking to win any money. Most companies are willing to provide temporary access for you to explore and try out their program.

5. Amazon Associates

Arguably the most well-known affiliate program in existence, if not the absolute most famous one!

I joined Amazon Associates as my second program and I continue to utilize them for all my posts. It is convenient to use and I have achieved considerable success with it.

You earn a commission (ranging from 4% to 8%) on every sale made through your blog.

If I associate the words fish sauce with a specific fish sauce available for sale on Amazon, I can earn a commission each time someone clicks on the provided link and proceeds to make a purchase.

6. Shareasale

With more than 2,000 merchants, Shareasale operates as an affiliate network.

Once you’re registered, the process allows you to select the merchants you wish to endorse, but you must wait for their approval after submitting a request before you can commence promoting them. I have yet to be rejected, as it is relatively easy to gain acceptance. Payments are combined into a single paycheck and the minimum threshold is $50.

7. Swoop

Swoop is a fantastic affiliate company designed exclusively for food blogs. All you have to do is insert a code in your blog’s header, and Swoop will automatically insert ads within your site’s content, usually in articles or recipes that match the context. If you prefer, you can opt to display Swoop ads only on your recipe cards, like I do on my blog, rather than throughout your posts. I believe that every food blogger should utilize Swoop as it offers a non-intrusive way to earn a few bucks every month.

8. VigLink

VigLink is focused on in-text advertising, which involves transforming certain words in your posts into affiliate links. By doing so, you have the opportunity to earn a referral commission if a user makes a purchase. Although my experience with VigLink was brief, I can say that it was fairly simple to generate small amounts of income sporadically.

Despite possessing a positive reputation and garnering satisfaction and success from numerous bloggers, I refrain from utilizing their services merely due to my existing abundance of links and advertisements on my blog.

Final Thoughts

By engaging in affiliate marketing, you can generate passive income for your blog effectively. After putting in the initial effort, your earnings can range from a few dollars per month to thousands of dollars per year, with minimal ongoing work.
